I spent several hours at the Vancouver Art Gallery today at the exhibit Beat Nation - Art, Hip Hop and Aboriginal Culture
I was struck by so much there, especially Coppers from the Hood by Michael Nicoll Yahgulanaas. These are made from the hoods of Honda cars and are simply stunning.
I'd previously read a Haida Manga book written by Michael, but didn't connect the name until I did a google search. You can watch a YouTube animation of Michael's book Flight of the Hummingbird here.
Michael's message is simple and personal. Like Dukdukdiya, you can fly solo. Stand up. The outcome is unimportant. What is important is to do what you can.
Great day! So inspired by the humour, the beauty, the courage and the passion in this exhibit.
