I have two pieces in this show – an altered book and a triptych. I hope the triptych makes you laugh.
Here’s a peek at one of the pages in the book and the cover as I was working on it. Since this photo, I added my name and altered the publisher name on the spine to reflect where I live and create. (I love the notion that books have spines...) The images are carved into the cover lending a tactile feel to the book and this is art meant to be handled so if you go to the Gallery, page through it.
I love summer. I love June with its long days, all the endless greens, and scents that make me swoon. I’m awakened at 4am with birdsong. A deluge of sensual pleasure – THAT is June!
I have a couple of summer projects on the go – one is siding my home. This became a necessity when the housewrap broke down and starting flapping around like great wings. I was considering cedar siding, counting up my saved pennies and wondering if I could figure out how to install it and how much help I would need, when Brent suggested cedar shakes. I love the look of them AND the process of putting them on the house. It feels like a meditation. The gable end of the house will require three levels of scaffold and step ladders and I’m planning to get creative with the shingles when I get there. Getting creative should help eliminate the rubber legs I am anticipating...
